Considering myself a social butterfly, I am always eager to be part of the celebration and feel amazed at how perfectly people organise things at parties from planning the event to giving return gifts to the guests. This fascination pursued me to choose the Bachelor of Arts - Event Management. During my time as an event management student, I got various opportunities to handle the pre-event and post-event phases. These events not only instilled in me a sense of confidence, but also made me realise my coordination and organisation skills.By the time I completed my diploma, I decided to become an entrepreneur and start my own event management company named "Celebrate Sphere Events". However, at the onset of starting a business, I realised the lack of real-life experience as well as exposure to the global industry practices. Therefore, to initiate work on my goal, I have selected Auckland University of Technology for a Bachelor of Arts - Event Management. I am highly confident that my coordination, organisational, and time-management skills will aid me on my journey to become a successful event manager.

Academic and Professional Background

Due to being an avid learner, I have been an excellent student throughout my academic journey. An overview of my educational background has been mentioned below:

• One-year diploma in Global Event Management from JD Institute of Fashion Technology at Siliguri.
• Senior Secondary Education in Commerce field from Central Board of Education (CBSE) with 8 CGPA.
• The Prerequisite of IELTS to evaluate language proficiency, I have scored 8 each in all the modules with an overall of 8 Bands.

During my time as an event management student, JD Institute offered me a golden opportunity to stay in London for 21 days.Over there, I worked closely with the Hilton Hotel’s event management team which helped me gain real-world industry experience. Throughout my stay, I collaborated with other employees to ensure that all the events progressed seamlessly. In addition to this, I handled all the guests which helped me develop excellent communication skills. I believe that my learnings and experience through the event management diploma would help me in my undergraduate degree.

Why New Zealand over other countries

Being a xenophilia, I love to explore different cultures. Despite the fact that my stay in London was merely for 21 days, I happened to learn a lot about different British cultures. One such culture, known as Maori culture, particularly interested me a lot. I believe it to be a major driving force to select New Zealand as the destination to pursue my further education in event management. Upon further research, I found out that all the universities in New Zealand are known to successfully combine traditional values of excellence in teaching and research. Moreover, the degrees from NZ universities are globally recognised allowing me to return to India and work there. Apart from this, I am inclined towards New Zealand because of the easier immigration and visa regulations for student visas. A New Zealand student visa has a comparatively shorter processing time and success rate, making it worth investing as an international student.

Personal information and source of funds

I belong to an upper-middle-class family in New Delhi, with my father being a businessman and my mother, a college professor. I live in a joint family with my grandparents, parents and siblings. Our family business is Das Paper Mill, which is owned and operated by my father. Owing to my father's well-established business, I have a strong financial support because of which I can bear the expenses of studying in New Zealand. I have paid the admission fee of $33,746, opened a New Zealand bank account, paid for health insurance, and arranged the living costs for my first year in New Zealand as a university student. I have herein enclosed my father's bank statements along with the necessary documents that explain my father's financial standing as proof of my financial backing for funds to pursue my education in New Zealand.

Future plans

After completing my degree in New Zealand, I plan to return to my home country, India. I, then, plan to curate a unique portfolio based on the knowledge that I've gained through my degree and diploma. Based on my skills and portfolio, I aspire to work with Vision Vivaah, a top-rated event management company in India. Working with this organisation, I will gain experience in organising not only weddings and celebrations, but I will also be able to organise educational, business, and marketing events. During the time period I continue working with them, I plan on curating a strong network and polishing my knowledge on themes and decoration along with establishing strong management techniques.Finally, I will move towards my long-term goal of starting my own business, Celebrate Sphere Events.Apart from my career aspirations, my focus is to work on waste management since it is a serious problem in the event management industry. I want to work with the latest recycling technologies and select digital alternatives to reduce the usage of paper ensuring the generation of a very low proportion of waste by my company.

I was first introduced to this quote by my mother when I was a little kid. And I have listened to her quote this line a million times ever since then. My family calls my mother the biggest foodie because she loves talking about food, however, I feel that it is her passion for food that makes her cook and talk about it so much. I consider my mom to be the reason behind my fervour for serving and having flavorful food items. I believe that being able to blend various traditions with the help of dishes is a marvellous talent, and making a career out of the same is the best decision that I can make for myself. As a budding chef, my unique skill set lies in the fusion of creativity, precision, and an understanding of a variety of flavours. I aspire to become a chef and would love to manage a restaurant in the future that is worthy of rewards resembling the famous Michelin star.

I have completed my senior secondary education at MBS International School, New Delhi, in the arts stream. I have been a studious kid and have displayed exemplary academic performance. I have also been a good football player and played for my school's football team in middle and high school. Outside of my academic life, I believe that I delved into the culinary arts solely with my mother's help. Additionally, my hands-on experience in the home kitchen by helping her has helped me get practical insights into the dynamics of a professional kitchen. My interest in cooking has helped me bag the winning prize in the 'Best Home Chef' category for 3 consecutive years as a teenager. My accomplishments are not only limited to this but extend to social media as well. I have an Instagram page that goes by the handle 'thesmittenkitchen' and has around 2000+ followers. I started by posting my favourite breakfast recipes, which received a great response and amped up my confidence. In addition to this, I also maintain a WordPress blog under the 'thesmittenkitchen' name. These accomplishments outside of my academic life as a student solidified my decision to become a chef.

My decision to get a diploma in culinary arts would help me deepen my knowledge and refine my culinary skills as a home chef. The diploma in Cookery & Kitchen Management at the New Zealand School of Food and Wine stands out to me due to its comprehensive curriculum and exposure to international cuisines. The coursework emphasises building a thorough foundation in cookery and advanced cookery techniques. At the same time, the students are taught the important skills of human resources and kitchen management, which, according to me, makes the course the best option for budding chefs like me. Moreover, NZSFW provides all its graduates the access to the NZSFW Placement Service which has placement tie-ups with the industry's renowned names, which I believe is a dream for ambitious students like me. I am confident that my diverse background, coupled with my passion for innovation and cultural integration in the culinary arts, will make me a valuable addition to the university.

I believe that upon completion of my diploma, I will have a diversified skill set that will help me on my journey to become a chef. In the short term, my goal is to get hired by a hotel or restaurant where I can gain insights into working in the front house. In the long term, I intend to start my own restaurant that is capable of getting Michelin Stars and earn worldwide recognition and offers an authentic experience to its guests.My bigger goal in life, apart from this, would be to establish a culinary identity that transcends borders and create dishes that resonate with people and evoke emotions.
